The Symphony No. 9 in C major, Hoboken I/9, is a symphony by Joseph Haydn. The symphony was composed in 1762.〔H. C. Robbins Landon, ''The Symphonies of Joseph Haydn''. London: Universal Edition & Rockliff (1955): 629. "1762 (autograph)."〕 It is scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, bassoon, 2 horns, strings and continuo.〔Landon (1955): 629. "2 ob., 1 fag., 2 cor., str. (cemb. ); fag. solo only in trio."〕 The flutes are used in place of the oboes in the slow movement and mainly double the first violins an octave higher.〔A. ISBN 025333487X.〕 The work is in three movements: #Allegro molto, 2/4 #Andante, G major, 2/4 #Minuetto e Trio, Allegretto, both 3/4 While it was not unusual to end a 3-movement symphony with a minuet, such a minuet generally was without a trio.
